Clean drinking water is provided to the settlements along the lagoon through pipes from the Occhito dam, which also supplies agriculture and small industries. However, a huge density of wells is recorded in the area but they are mostly used for agriculture, especially during drought periods.
The presence of numerous karst springs has also contributed to the development of inland aquaculture farms, which utilize groundwater for their pools.
