- Abstract
The textural characteristics of the sediments confirm that large percentages of coarse sand (up to 74%) present in some portions of the lagoon are attributed to the sediments composing the sandy ridges, which gradually closed the lagoon from the sea. Therefore, the muddy portion is interpreted as the product of recent sediments. The muddy fraction is minor in quantity where bedforms attributed to the relic spits exist.
Much of the lagoon is marked by muddy sediments, with fine-grained clayey silt giving way to slightly coarser grained silts and fine sands near the two inlets. The finest material is found near the marshes on the eastern shore. The map of sediments from 2000 (Brambati 2002) is reported in the .shp. These fine sediments lead to sometimes turbid conditions during periods of heavy wind.
Samples were collected in a campaign performed in 2000.Brambati A. 2002 Caratterizzazione morfologica di specchi d' acqua costieri ai fini di una caratterizzazione cartografica: Lago di Lesina.
